Occasional blood in the stool, or noticeable moisture.

Dear team,
For some time now, I have noticed that after longer periods of physical activity, I have blood in my stool.
I also often feel moisture along with unpleasant smells - no visible blood.
I feel a kind of pressure in the rectal area. It does not hurt, it is just uncomfortable when sitting.
What could this be? Can I treat it with anal tampons or creams?
Or is it advisable to see a doctor immediately?
Thanks in advance,
Markus
Dear Seeker,
Therapizing something that has not been diagnosed is definitely the wrong way. The most common cause for the symptoms you described are hemorrhoids or other benign changes in the rectum. The diagnosis is made by an "endoscopy" (rectoscopy), which is a quick and painless examination. Depending on the findings, medical history, and age, a complete colonoscopy may be recommended, especially as you get older. However, the first step is to see and be examined by your primary care physician.
Best regards,
Dr. med. Christoph Schmülling
