Fear of stomach cancer.

Hello. During a gastroscopy, mucosal changes and gastritis were detected. At the pylorus, there is a mucosal change, possibly an enlarged Brunner's gland. A biopsy was taken, but results are pending. I am now terrified of stomach cancer.
Good day,
Brunner's glands are harmless glands that belong there. If they are enlarged, this is not an indication of cancer! It is usually due to a mild inflammation that blocks the excretory duct, or (very rarely!) due to a benign growth of the gland.
If there had been suspicion of an adenocarcinoma, such as a glandular cancer, this would have been noted in the report and not just an enlarged gland mentioned.
Therefore, you can await the results of the histology calmly and without worry.
Sincerely, Dr. Gehring
