Swelling normal?

Hello, my 15-year-old daughter had an accident a week ago. She had a laceration-crush wound on her right knee with bursa opening. It was removed and the wound was cleaned and stitched. There is also a severe contusion in the knee. Since Sunday, she has been receiving 20mg of clexane once a day. Today she noticed that her right calf is thicker than the other. No pain, even when pressed. She has been moving and walking more since yesterday. Before that, she was mainly lying down. Is this normal or a cause for concern regarding thrombosis?

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good evening,

Clexane is dosed so low at 20 mg that a thrombosis cannot be ruled out. I would recommend getting a quick test and a medical examination at the emergency medical service tomorrow. It may not necessarily be a thrombosis, but it's better to be safe.

Sincerely, Dr. Höllering
