Costs for the swine flu vaccination

A couple of colleagues and I are interested in the cost of the swine flu vaccination. How much will it cost someone to get vaccinated? Or will the health insurance cover these costs?

Dr. med. Susanne Plotz

Dear inquirer,

The issue of covering the costs of vaccination has been long and hotly debated in the political bodies of the federal government and states. According to the latest reports, an agreement has been reached on the following principle: health insurance companies will cover the costs for 50% of their insured individuals. If additional vaccinations are needed beyond that (as it is not assumed that everyone will get vaccinated), the additional costs will be covered by the federal government and states, with a portion potentially coming from tax funds. So, the answer to your question is: as a patient, you will not have to bear the costs.

I hope I was able to assist you and send you warm regards.
Yours sincerely,
Susanne Plotz
