Dear expert!
How serious are the consequences of a swine flu infection in general? Could I die or suffer lasting damage from it? I am considering whether getting vaccinated is worthwhile. Thank you very much!
Dear inquirer,
Due to the intense discussions and reports in the media, it is very understandable that you are concerned. Experts believe that swine flu in general is milder than the regular flu. However, there are also scientists who fear that the virus could become more aggressive and lead to a more serious course. The extent to which swine flu is life-threatening for a person also depends on any accompanying illnesses as well as age. For a healthy individual, swine flu is indeed very unpleasant with symptoms like fever, body aches, fatigue, etc., but it is not life-threatening. However, as mentioned, this depends on the individual case. From a distance, I cannot assess how swine flu could have more serious consequences for you. If you are considering getting vaccinated, I recommend visiting your family doctor, who can also inform you in detail about the risks of swine flu and the benefits of vaccination.
I hope I could help you and wish you all the best.
Warm regards,
Susanne Plotz
