Dark shreds next to or on a naevus.

Dear Sir or Madam,

About 6 cm above my navel, there has always been a skin-colored spot approximately 1-2 mm in size, likely a fibromatous nevus. About 4 weeks ago, I noticed a dark red piece on it. After a week, everything looked the same as before, so I didn't think much of it. I was told at that time that it was a harmless injury to the nevus, which would heal on its own (which it did).

Now, a few weeks later, I have discovered a dark "flap" about 1 mm in size sticking out at the same spot. It is difficult to determine if it actually originates from the nevus or if it protrudes from the skin beside it. No pain (even when touching the "flap"), no other health complaints, no skin conditions. Age 23, male, normal physique, height 1.80 m, weight 78 kg, currently residing in Malta.

Should I be worried?

Thank you in advance and best regards.

Hello,

You should have this checked by a dermatologist as soon as possible. From what can be seen in the pictures, a new, small pigmented nevus has formed, with an irregularly pigmented and structured surface. This should be monitored by a dermatologist with a special camera to ensure that you do not need to worry.

Kind regards,

Dr. Schaaf
