Submission of tax return
April 21, 2012 | 25,00 EUR | answered by Andreas Schupp
Dear Sir or Madam,
I have questions regarding the submission of the tax return. As I have previously worked on a wage tax card during an internship, I am asked by the tax office every year to submit a tax return. Currently, I am employed as an architect in an office.
My first question is: Am I obligated to submit a tax return every year or is it voluntary?
My second question would be, is it worth it for me to submit a tax return? I earn 1500 EUR gross, after a salary increase probably only 2000 EUR gross (I am single).
I would appreciate a helpful response, depending on which I will either hire a tax advisor for the submission of a tax return or not.
Yours sincerely.
Dear questioner,
Thank you for your inquiry, which I will gladly answer taking into consideration your input and the rules on this platform.
Please note that my explanations are based on the facts you have provided, and that any modifications or ambiguity in the information given can affect the correct tax result.
Please be aware that due to professional regulations, I cannot address legal questions.
Regarding question 1:
Basically, salary income (so-called "income from employment") is already taxed through the tax deduction (income tax).
If you also earn other income (e.g. capital gains above the saver's allowances, rental income, or self-employment income) and each of them exceeds €410, you are required to file a tax return.
If the tax office requests you to file a tax return, you are legally obliged to do so.
Regarding question 2:
Unfortunately, this question cannot be answered without further information.
Because your work-related expenses need to be offset.
These expenses include, for example, commuter flat rate (currently €0.30 per kilometer - one way only), costs of education and training, professional literature, etc., meaning all expenses related to your job will be taken into account.
If you have additional expenses that exceed €1,044 and you only have salary income, a tax refund is very likely.
I hope my explanations have been helpful to you.
If you are interested in having me prepare your tax return as part of a mandate, please feel free to contact me.
