Extraordinary burdens - Travel expenses to the doctor
April 14, 2021 | 30,00 EUR | answered by Steuerberater Knut Christiansen
My partner and I (unmarried, both in tax class 1) are both receiving specialist medical treatment. We almost always schedule our appointments together so that we can drive there together by car, as the one-way distance to the clinic is 90km.
My question: Can each of us deduct 30 cents per kilometer driven as an extraordinary burden for tax purposes, or only the one who is driving?
Good day and thank you for using frag-einen.com!
I am happy to answer your question as part of an initial consultation.
Travel expenses (in this case: travel costs for the outward and return journey) can only be claimed as extraordinary expenses if you have actually incurred expenses. So if you are the only one driving a vehicle, only one person can claim these expenses.
I hope I have answered your question. If not, please feel free to ask a follow-up question at no cost.
