Craftsman's bill

Hello,

we had the roof of my parents' house re-covered in 2009. We live in this house together with my mother, who still owns the house. My mother has a small pension, which is why we have covered the costs for this, especially since we will eventually take over the house. We received a detailed invoice from the roofer and have paid the invoice. Are we allowed to submit the costs for the craftsmen, even though we are not yet the owners?

Dear inquirer,

Thank you for your inquiry, which I would like to answer based on your information and your efforts in the context of an initial consultation.

The consideration of craftsman services according to § 35a EStG requires, among other things, that the service is provided in your private household. It is irrelevant whether you are the owner or tenant, or whether you live there rent-free. Therefore, you can include the labor costs in your tax return that are included in the invoice.

Best regards,
