Moving when receiving Hartz 4.
August 3, 2009 | 20,00 EUR | answered by Dr. Dr. Danjel-Philippe Newerla
Can I move to another state as a Hartz 4 recipient? I want to move from North Rhine-Westphalia to Lower Saxony and look for work there. My current apartment is terminated at the end of the month.
Best regards
Dear seeker of advice,
Thank you for your inquiry!
I would like to address your questions considering the information you have provided and your situation as follows:
If you are receiving ALG II benefits and want to move and request reimbursement for moving costs, reimbursement is generally only possible if there are important reasons. Important reasons according to SGB II include:
- Mold infestation in the apartment
- Health restrictions
- Starting a job in another city
The authority always needs proof of the existence of these reasons. This can be photos, letters from a lawyer, medical certificates, or an employment contract.
The strict regulation is due to the costs associated with moving, as usual. Therefore, you need a certificate of necessity from the job center where you are currently registered for a move.
Reimbursement for job search purposes will not be possible based on your description.
However, you can move to another state without losing your ALG II entitlement (in this case, you would have to cover the moving costs).
It is advisable to contact the job center at your new place of residence before the move and confirm the continuation of your benefits.
I hope this provides you with an initial legal orientation and wish you success and all the best!
