water damage

Hello,

On Friday evening, a water damage occurred in my rented apartment, and it was my fault.

I have a small water treatment system for my aquariums connected to the washing machine, which drains into a canister. Unfortunately, I fell asleep on the sofa so I couldn't turn off the water and the canister overflowed. The water damaged the door in the bathroom as well as the door frame, and water also leaked into the apartment below and dripped from the ceiling. Nothing was damaged in the apartment below, you would just need to open the ceiling and potentially repair the drywall.

My insurance liability/household

My question is, will the liability insurance cover this?

If not, how can I convince the insurance to pay? I am completely desperate and seeking help.

Dear inquirer,

The damage you have described is usually covered by your private liability insurance.

If no intent or gross negligence can be proven against you, you are not personally liable for the damage incurred.

If the insurer refuses to pay, you may have to resort to legal action and sue.

I hope this has been helpful to you. If you have any uncertainties, feel free to ask.

Best regards,
