Malarone and antibiotics???

Hello,
we are flying to Kenya on Friday and wanted to start taking Malarone from Thursday. However, I have developed bronchitis and my general practitioner has prescribed me an antibiotic called CefuHexal 250mg. Is it compatible with Malarone? On the other hand, I think the bronchitis is coming to an end, so I am a bit unsure. Regards, Miriam
Dear inquirer,
In principle, there is nothing against the simultaneous intake of Malarone and a cephalosporin (such as CefuHexal). On the other hand, you are right that not all common infections (such as acute bronchitis) need to be treated with an antibiotic, so the indication for giving CefuHexal depends on the severity of the bronchitis. If it is already clearly improving, you do not need to take an antibiotic anymore. You should definitely take Malarone regularly considering the upcoming trip (usually starting 2 days before arrival at the holiday destination). Side effects under prophylaxis with Malarone are very rare, but the preparation is quite expensive :-). I wish you a speedy recovery and a wonderful and eventful holiday.
Best regards,
O. Stephan
