Scarlet
Dear Sir or Madam,
Today, my 4-year-old daughter tested positive for streptococcus, and the doctor said it was scarlet fever. Her runny nose started at the beginning of the week, and on Wednesday she had a slight fever of 38.2, which had disappeared the following day. Because her face was swollen today, we went to the emergency room where the above-mentioned result was confirmed. She is now receiving antibiotics.
My question to you now concerns my 15-month-old daughter, who had a temperature of 39.5 yesterday, vomited once, and slept a lot. I interpreted the fever as a reaction to the MMR vaccination she received for the first time 11 days ago. My pediatrician said that she could have a high fever afterwards, with a delayed onset. Today she is back to her old self, no fever, seems fit and normal, only her nose has started running. Should I take her to the hospital as a precaution and have a strep test done to rule out scarlet fever, or is it still too early because no other symptoms have appeared so far. I did not interpret the severe runny nose in my older daughter as a symptom of scarlet fever either...
Thank you very much for your help in advance.
Best regards,
Joy
