Help Gentamicin allergy! Eye ointment!
Dear medical team! Yesterday, I was at the eye clinic because I injured my eyes with detergent. I was prescribed an eye ointment with antibiotics (GENTAX). Half an hour after using the eye ointment, I suddenly got ear pain and felt a dull pressure in my ear. I then looked up the active ingredient on the internet and read that it can also cause deafness. Because of this, I went to see my general practitioner today and he confirmed it. The doctor, who was a weekend stand-in, had no empathy. He also examined my ears and rudely said there was nothing wrong. I also used a bit too much of the ointment yesterday evening out of fear. I could barely see and I think I accidentally used 1 cm too much. I am now completely desperate. I was already worried before seeing the general practitioner, but now I am in a panic. Can the ear pressure also be caused by the cervical spine or by fluids in the ear? Both of our eyes were rinsed out yesterday at the eye clinic. The ear that hurts is the one where I used too much eye ointment. I have been completely desperate for 2 hours now, crying and at my wits' end. Is it possible that this one-time use of the eye ointment could make me deaf now or that this dull feeling in my ear will remain permanently? I bought nasal spray from the pharmacy.
