Ask a doctor on the topic of Neurology

Hands and arms are tingling.

Tingling in the arms and hands mainly at rest. Partially burning pain in the arms. Sporadic muscle twitching. Occasionally back pain in the shoulder area, sometimes in the lumbar spine, more like burning pain. Word retrieval disorder and memory problems for about 3/4 year. High blood pressure for 2 years. Creatinine levels at the borderline. Creatinine clearance was too low at the last check-up. Sleep problems, daytime fatigue. Taking L-Thyroxine 75 mg for mild hypothyroidism. Left central facial paralysis 2 weeks ago. Head MRI was inconclusive. Feeling the need to urinate frequently (no urinary tract infection). Hoarseness, dry mouth. Throat pain after prolonged speaking. Occasional coughing fits. Reflexes are okay according to the neurologist. Reduced nerve conduction velocity in the left arm, slight carpal tunnel syndrome according to the neurologist. Doctor suspects a virus. Did not have a tick bite, but had chickenpox as a child and my son had chickenpox 2 years ago. However, the general practitioner did not conduct any relevant tests. Says throat pain is due to facial paralysis and the rest is from the virus.

You may not have noticed the tick bite, that is often the case.

The idea of ruling out so-called Neuroborreliosis as a late consequence of a tick bite is correct. For this, "cerebrospinal fluid" must be examined, a blood test is not sufficient in this case. The same applies to the examination for late damage caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the so-called Zoster Neuropathy. Both are possibilities, both must be ruled out now, the right person to contact for this is the neurologist.
