Stabbing pain in the toes
My husband, 74 years old, suffers from stabbing pains, sometimes only in the big toe of his left foot, sometimes in all toes of his left foot. He has venous insufficiency, has been wearing support stockings for some time, has also had 3 disc herniations, and had a stent inserted 4 years ago due to coronary artery narrowing. He walks for 1 hour every day and is otherwise physically fit.
The stabbing pains in his toes, occurring seconds apart, last for 2-3 days and then disappear for a few weeks. The problem is that no pain medication helps and he cannot sleep during the attacks. We cannot explain the cause and do not know which specialist to turn to. A few years ago, he was once in a vascular clinic - without result.
