Hello Mr. Schmülling,

I have one more question: are peribronchial indurations not fibrosis, i.e. not curable? Or can these also regress?

Dear Seeker of Advice,

It is important to know, and I wanted to convey to you, that even an X-ray image requires interpretation, and it is quite possible that in the assessment of your X-ray image (which I unfortunately do not have in front of me in its original form), 50% of radiologists may see indurations and 50% may interpret the findings differently. Only the course of events can provide information on whether indurations are truly to be suspected. Even if they are present, they are still not automatically equated with manifest fibrosis.

All of this may sound incredibly complicated and imprecise to you, and ultimately it is: Medicine is not an exact natural science (just as the body is not a machine that can be calculated at every moment), but rather an empirical science often dependent on interpretations of indirect signs provided by indirect examinations (such as X-rays), as well as on relationships and progressions. That is why there is sometimes talk of medical "art," although that may be a bit exaggerated.

I hope you can muster the positive patience and trust to wait for the timely course of events. Speculations are generally out of place in medicine, as is the attempt to make diagnoses based solely on an image.

Best regards,
Dr. med. Christoph Schmülling
