Unexplained difficulty swallowing
Hello,
for a few weeks now I have been experiencing slight swallowing difficulties from time to time. This manifests itself in mild pain that occurs every time I swallow after yawning. This only happens after yawning, it is not constant. I yawn, swallow, and it hurts. On the right side. If I swallow two or three more times, the pain goes away.
At first, I didn't worry too much about it, as it only occurs when I yawn. I thought maybe I just strained a muscle in my throat or something. Or maybe it was my tonsils. But I wasn't sick. I wasn't cold.
Recently, I was at my GP (for another issue) and I took the opportunity to ask her about the throat issue. She looked inside and said my tonsils looked okay. She also felt my lymph nodes in my neck and they were also normal. So she couldn't find anything unusual.
However, being a hypochondriac, I googled it. And I came across various alarming diseases that could be causing such symptoms. For example, laryngeal or pharyngeal carcinomas.
I try to tell myself that I am only 28 years old and do not smoke and only drink occasionally. And that such diseases only affect older people or heavy smokers and drinkers. But I'm still scared. That's why I'm writing this now.
Maybe you have some advice or some reassuring words for me. What do you think? Am I overreacting? Or are these symptoms really cause for concern?
