Sinusitis
Hello,
I have been struggling with a persistent sinus infection for over three weeks now. I have tried various over-the-counter remedies from the pharmacy, including Soledum capsules, Gelomyrtol, saline nasal rinses, and chamomile steam baths, but nothing seems to be helping. My primary care physician prescribed Roxithromycin, which I took once daily for a week, but unfortunately it did not have the desired effect.
Six days ago, I saw an ENT specialist who prescribed the antibiotic Clindamycin (30 tablets, to be taken 3 times a day for 10 days - I have a penicillin allergy), as well as a decongestant nasal spray and Ibuprofen 400mg. I had to stop taking the Ibuprofen after two days due to increasing stomach issues.
I have already used more than half of the antibiotic course, but I am experiencing little improvement aside from a slight decrease in fever (from over 38 to about 37.7°C). The pain in my forehead is still present, and bending forward causes such intense pain that tears come to my eyes. The pain also radiates to my eye sockets and the area around my eyes hurts. I am also slightly light-sensitive in the mornings, but it usually improves after a few minutes. My nose remains congested, and without the nasal spray (which I should not use for more than seven days), breathing through my nose is nearly impossible. The mucus is still somewhat yellowish, but mostly clear and transparent.
I am starting to feel unsure about what else I can do, as this illness has had a tight grip on me for over three weeks, and I feel incredibly exhausted and tired every day.
I am also concerned that the infection may spread and lead to meningitis. Is that possible?
Do you have any suggestions on how I can get rid of this sinus infection?
Thank you in advance and best regards.
