Hello,
I have been experiencing severe pain in my right buttock and throughout my right leg (thigh, calf) for a few days. The middle three toes have a numb feeling. I am unable to sit or lie down. The pain is also present when walking, but it lessens after some time. However, when I sit down, the pain returns within 5 minutes.
Hello!
The pain you described is called sciatica, which is pain along the course of the sciatic nerve. This pain is caused by compression of the nerve, which is usually located in the lower back and often associated with lower back pain (called lumbosciatica). Compression in the buttocks area due to a pronounced muscle (called piriformis syndrome) is also common. There are, however, many other possible causes. The occasional sensory disturbances can also be explained by this.
You should see an orthopedic specialist who can make a diagnosis through a targeted physical examination and X-rays, and start appropriate treatment for the cause.
If you develop weakness in the muscles or symptoms of paralysis in the affected leg, or if the sensory disturbances persist, please seek immediate medical attention at a hospital with a neurological department.
I wish you all the best!
