High pulse

Hello. I have been flat with acute tonsillitis for 3 days now, also had very high fever and took an ibuprofen this morning to lower the fever. Before the illness, I already had an elevated heart rate for 5 days - 88, and with the tonsillitis around 90 - 94. Is this normal even if I don't have a fever today? I was also prescribed antibiotics.

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good day,

Such an infection is also a significant burden on the circulation, which responds to stress with a slight increase in pulse. With a fever, a heart rate of 110 would still be sensible and plausible, which you just had.

So everything is okay. It is important that you rest in bed and relieve your circulation until the antibiotics take effect. I wish you a speedy recovery!

Warm regards,
Dr. Höllering
