Gastrointestinal virus

Good morning, my niece has been vomiting constantly from 4-8 am last night. It seems to be a stomach flu. Could I have caught it if I cuddled with her yesterday afternoon? I haven't had any contact with her since around 7:30 pm yesterday. Thank you for a quick update! Regards, Kathrin
Dear patient,
The incubation period of a stomach flu is between 4 and 48 hours, with the patient already being infectious even if they haven't experienced any symptoms yet. As long as the patient is sick, they can infect other people. Transmission usually occurs through droplets (coughing or sneezing, but also through speaking), touch, and contact with infected surfaces. The sick person should thoroughly wash their hands after every visit to the toilet, and kissing, hugging, or any other physical contact should be avoided. A stomach flu is highly contagious, which is why hygiene is crucial. The toilet and surrounding area should be disinfected and cleaned, and the clothing and bedding should be washed after the illness.
