Which tax classes
November 9, 2012 | 30,00 EUR | answered by Dr. Yanqiong Bolik
Hello,
I got married this year and my husband has a child from his first marriage who does not live with us. My gross annual salary is currently €25,889.00 and my husband earns €39,527.07 annually. We both work 100%, but I would like to work less. Can you tell me how many percent it would be best to work and which tax classes we should choose? Thank you in advance. Sincerely, Höferlin
Dear inquirer,
Thank you for your inquiry, which I would like to answer taking into account your input and the rules of this platform.
Please note that my explanation is based on the facts presented, and that adding, omitting, changing information, or the ambiguity of the information can change the tax result.
The decision on tax classes should be made in connection with your goal:
- If you want to have the highest possible liquidity during the calendar year, then you should choose tax class V and your husband tax class III. Be prepared for a possible tax payment after the end of the calendar year with this tax class combination. In addition, social benefits are calculated based on the net salary. If you plan to take parental leave, for example, you will receive less parental leave benefits with tax class V.
- If you want to avoid a tax payment and even look forward to a possible tax refund, then the tax combination IV/IV is better.
What is the criterion for you for a rewarding job in connection with taxes? Could you please specify here, then I can answer your question.
I hope I could assist you.
