Is there a maximum limit for the deductibility of work tools?

Dear Tax Advisor,
My name is Artur Freudenberger and I am a self-employed photographer. Over the past few years, I have invested in expensive equipment to be able to carry out my work at a high quality level. Now I am wondering if there is a limit to the deductibility of work-related expenses.
I am currently facing the challenge of preparing my tax return for the past year. I have noticed that I have spent a large sum on new cameras, lenses, and accessories. Of course, it would be beneficial for me to be able to deduct these costs from my taxes.
However, I am unsure if there is a limit to the amount of work-related expenses that I can deduct. I want to avoid having my expenses not fully considered and suffering financial losses as a result.
I am concerned that I may have incurred expenses that are not fully deductible, leading me to pay more taxes at the end of the year than I had planned. Therefore, it is very important for me to know if there is a limit to the amount of work-related expenses that can be deducted.
Could you please help me by informing me if there is a limit to the deductibility of work-related expenses? If so, what is this limit and what options do I have to optimize my expenses for tax purposes?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Sincerely,
Artur Freudenberger
Dear Mr. Freudenberger,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the deductibility of work equipment as a self-employed photographer. It is understandable that you are wondering if there is a limit to the deductibility of your expenses and how you can optimize your tax burden.
As a self-employed individual, you can generally claim the costs of work equipment such as cameras, lenses, and accessories as business expenses. These expenses reduce your profit and therefore your tax burden. However, there is no fixed limit to the deductibility of work equipment. As long as the expenses for the equipment are work-related and contribute to generating income, you can include them in your tax return.
It is important to keep all receipts and invoices for the purchase of work equipment carefully and be able to present them in your tax return. If your expenses are very high, the tax office may scrutinize whether the costs are reasonable and necessary. However, in general, the expenses should be deductible without any issues as long as they are incurred within the scope of your self-employment.
To optimize your expenses for tax purposes, I recommend that you fully disclose all relevant costs for your equipment and, if necessary, also make depreciations for the purchases. By accurately documenting your expenses and professionally preparing your tax documents, you can ensure that you do not suffer any financial losses and minimize your tax burden.
If you have any further questions or require individual advice, I am happy to assist you. Please do not hesitate to contact me to optimize your tax matters as a self-employed photographer.
