Back to Germany
September 27, 2011 | 20,00 EUR | answered by Dr. Yanqiong Bolik
Hello,
I was born in Germany and have been working in Greece since 1997. Now, in November, I will be taking up a job in Germany again and would like to know how much the difference in my net salary (including child benefit/tax allowance) will be if I
a) return together with my wife and three minor children
or
b) return alone.
Which tax classes must or can I choose.
Thank you in advance.
Dear inquirer,
Thank you for your inquiry, which I will gladly answer taking into account your contribution and the rules of this platform.
Please note that my explanation is based on the facts presented, and that adding, omitting, changing information, or the ambiguity of information can change the tax result.
1) Tax class
If you come to Germany alone, you will be assigned tax class I. If your wife moves to Germany with you, you will generally fall under tax class IV. Upon request, you can get tax class III if your wife chooses tax class V.
2) Net salary comparison based on your gross salary information
Case 1. You return to Germany alone
Case 2. You return with your whole family and choose tax class combination IV/IV
Case 3. You return with your whole family and choose tax class combination III/V
More monthly net salary from Case 2 to Case 1: almost 14 EUR
More monthly net salary from Case 3 to Case 2: almost 440 EUR
I hope I could be of assistance to you.
