Swiss retirement account pillar 3a taxation in Germany
I intend to leave Switzerland and move back to Germany. In Switzerland, there is the possibility to deposit money into a pension account and deduct the deposited amount from taxes. This money can be withdrawn upon request when leaving the country. The balance will then be subject to a withholding tax and paid out when a deregistration confirmation from the Swiss community and a registration confirmation from a German community are provided. This means that the money is paid out at a time when you are already subject to tax in Germany. Now my question: Is the amount paid out from the pension account also subject to taxation by the German tax authorities? If so, would it be different if the payment was still made while living in Switzerland?
