Hartz 4 and building society contract
November 18, 2009 | 25,00 EUR | answered by Andreas Scholz
I have been living apart from my son (2 years old) and his mother since birth. I pay monthly child support according to the table and see my son regularly. Both of us receive Hartz 4 benefits.
I would like to now open a building society savings contract in my son's name, where €30 will be deposited monthly. Is this a problem in connection with Hartz 4? If so, is there an alternative I can do to save for his future, so that he will have money for things like a driver's license when he turns 16 or 18, for example?
Dear inquirer,
You can easily take out a building society savings contract for your son as the beneficiary. You can do this in your own name with your son as the beneficiary, in which case the mother would not need to be involved.
I assume that you were not married to the mother when the child was born. In that case, the mother has sole custody. In this situation, you cannot act on behalf of your son, only the mother can. She alone is legally authorized to represent the child and could therefore take out a building society savings contract in the child's name.
I hope this helps, if you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
