Can I apply for a pension for adult children?

Dear lawyer,

My name is Hans Schlittmaier and I have a question regarding social law. My daughter recently turned 18 and I am wondering if I can apply for a pension for adult children.

My daughter has been experiencing health issues for some time now, which make it difficult for her to pursue regular full-time employment. Due to her health restrictions, she relies on my financial support.

Currently, I am receiving a pension myself due to many years of work and am therefore financially able to support my daughter. However, I am concerned about her future and wonder if there are ways to apply for financial support for her to ensure her long-term care.

Could you please tell me if there is a possibility for adult children with health restrictions to apply for a pension? What are the requirements that need to be met and what steps do I need to take to make this application?

Thank you in advance for your help and support.

Sincerely,
Hans Schlittmaier

Dear Mr. Schlittmaier,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding social law. It is understandable that you are concerned about your daughter's financial future and are looking for ways to support her long term. In regards to the question of a pension for adult children with health limitations, there is indeed the possibility to apply for support.

For adult children with health limitations, it is possible to apply for a so-called disability pension. This pension is granted under certain conditions, if the person's health problems are so severe that they are unable to pursue regular full-time employment. It does not matter whether it concerns a child or an adult.

To apply for a disability pension for your daughter, you must first submit an application to the responsible pension insurance. In this application, you must detail your daughter's health limitations and, if necessary, provide medical records confirming the diagnosis and degree of limitation.

It is important that the application is filled out carefully and includes all relevant information to ensure a smooth processing. You may also consult a lawyer to assist you with the application process and ensure that all necessary steps are followed.

After submitting the application, the pension insurance will review whether the requirements for a disability pension are met. This process may take some time, so patience is required. If the application is approved, your daughter will receive a monthly pension to support her financial needs.

I hope this information is helpful to you and I am available if you have any further questions or need assistance.

Best regards,
