Ask a doctor on the topic of Plastic surgery

What care instructions are there after a facelift?

Dear Doctor,

My name is Tobias Schlosser and I recently had a facelift. Although I am very pleased with the results, I am now concerned about the proper care after the procedure. I have no previous experience with plastic surgery and want to make sure I do everything correctly to achieve optimal results and avoid any complications.

Currently, my skin still feels a bit tight and I have some slight swelling on my face, which hopefully will soon subside. I am unsure about which skincare products to use and how to best support my skin for a quick recovery. I am also interested to know if there are any specific guidelines I should follow to promote the healing process.

My biggest concern is that I might do something wrong and compromise the results of the facelift. Therefore, it would be very helpful if you could provide me with detailed skincare instructions tailored to my situation after the facelift. I am willing to follow all recommendations closely to achieve the best possible outcome.

Thank you in advance for your support and valuable advice.

Sincerely,
Tobias Schlosser

Dear Mr. Schlosser,

Thank you for your message and your trust in my expertise in plastic surgery. I am glad to hear that you are satisfied with the results of your face lift. It is understandable that you are now concerned about how to best care for your skin after the procedure in order to achieve optimal results and avoid complications.

After a face lift, it is important to treat the skin with particular gentleness and care to promote the healing process. First and foremost, it is important to use the skincare products recommended by your surgeon. In the first few days after the surgery, your skin may still be very sensitive, so you should avoid products with irritating ingredients such as alcohol or fragrances. Use mild and moisturizing products that soothe and support the skin.

It is also important to protect your skin from sun exposure, especially in the first weeks after the surgery. Avoid direct sunlight and always apply a sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. This not only helps protect the skin but also prevents scar formation.

To reduce swelling, you can apply cool compresses or ice packs to the affected areas. However, make sure not to apply the ice directly to the skin, but wrap it in a cloth to prevent frostbite. Additionally, in the first few days after the surgery, make sure to keep your head slightly elevated to promote blood circulation and reduce swelling.

It is also important to take enough time for recovery and rest. Avoid strenuous physical activities and make sure to get enough sleep and eat a balanced diet to support your body in the healing process.

If you are unsure or have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your treating surgeon. He can provide you with individual advice tailored to your specific needs.

I hope these tips help you and wish you a speedy and smooth recovery after your face lift.

Best regards,

Dr. Günther Zollmann
