Can a nose correction improve my breathing?

Dear doctor,
My name is Sophia Müller and I have been having problems with my nasal breathing for some time now. I feel like my nose is often congested and I don't get enough air through it. Especially at night, I have difficulty breathing and often wake up because I feel like I'm not getting enough air.
I have already tried various nasal sprays and home remedies, but unfortunately nothing has really helped so far. That's why I have decided to inform myself about the possibility of a nose correction. I have heard that a nose correction can not only improve the external appearance of the nose, but also positively influence nasal breathing.
My nose is naturally slightly crooked and I also have a slight deviated septum, which has not caused me any problems so far. But I wonder if a nose correction could actually improve my breathing. I am worried that the surgery may not have the desired effect or that there may be complications.
Could you please provide me with more information about the possibilities of a nose correction and tell me if such an operation could really improve my nasal breathing? Are there risks and side effects that I should be aware of? And how long would it take approximately until I could breathe normally again after the operation?
I am very grateful for your expert advice and thank you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
Sophia Müller
Dear Mrs. Müller,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding a nose correction to improve your nasal breathing. It is understandable that you are considering a possible operation and need more information about it. A nose correction can indeed not only improve the external appearance of the nose, but also positively influence nasal breathing.
Various techniques can be used for a nose correction to improve nasal breathing, depending on the individual situation of the patient. In your case, with a natural deviation of the nose and a slight deviation of the nasal septum, a nose correction could actually help improve your nasal breathing. By straightening the nasal septum and possibly removing excess cartilage or bone tissue, the airflow in the nasal passages can be facilitated.
It is important to note that, as with any surgery, there are risks and side effects associated with a nose correction. These may include infections, bleeding, swelling, and scarring. Therefore, it is crucial that the operation is performed by an experienced and qualified plastic surgeon to minimize the risk of complications.
After the operation, it may take some time before you can breathe normally again. In the first few days after the operation, you may experience swelling and congestion in the nose, which will gradually subside. It may take several weeks for the final results to be visible and for you to fully benefit from the improved nasal breathing.
Before deciding on a nose correction, it is advisable to schedule a personal consultation with a plastic surgeon. In such a consultation, you can discuss your individual situation, clarify your expectations, and address any open questions about the operation and the healing process.
I hope this information helps you with your decision and I am happy to answer any further questions you may have. Thank you for your trust and I wish you all the best for your health.
Sincerely,
Yvonne Richter, Plastic Surgeon
