What can I do against dry skin in winter?

Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Lilli Völker and every year in winter I suffer from extremely dry skin. As soon as it gets colder outside, my skin feels rough, flakes, and itches. I have already tried various moisturizers, but none of them have really helped so far.
I am concerned that my dry skin in winter is not only uncomfortable, but could also harm my health. I have heard that dry skin can weaken the skin barrier and lead to inflammation. Additionally, my skin often feels tight and I feel like it ages faster.
Could you please give me tips on how to effectively treat my dry skin in winter? Are there specific skincare products that are especially suitable or perhaps natural home remedies that can help? Should I also pay attention to my diet or take specific dietary supplements?
I would greatly appreciate your expert opinion, as I would like to take action against my dry skin in winter to improve my skin health and feel more comfortable in my skin again.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Sincerely,
Lilli Völker
Dear Mrs. Völker,
Thank you for your question regarding your dry skin in winter. It is understandable that you are concerned about your skin health, as dry skin can not only be uncomfortable but also lead to various skin problems.
In winter, the air is often dry and cold, which can cause the skin to lose moisture and become dry. This can lead to roughness, flaking, itching, and even inflammation. A weakened skin barrier can also make the skin more susceptible to external factors such as cold, wind, or dry heating air.
To effectively treat your dry skin in winter, there are various measures you can take. Firstly, it is important to use a gentle cleanser to avoid further irritation of the skin. Avoid hot water, as this can further dry out the skin. Afterwards, you should use a rich moisturizer that deeply nourishes and hydrates your skin.
There are special skincare products for dry skin that contain ingredients such as urea, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or shea butter, which are particularly moisturizing. Products with lipids can also help strengthen the skin barrier and protect the skin from moisture loss.
In addition to external care, proper nutrition is also important for skin health. Make sure to drink enough water to hydrate the skin from the inside out. Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants can also help protect and nourish the skin.
Natural remedies such as coconut oil, olive oil, or avocado oil can also help soothe and nourish dry skin. Apply the oil to damp skin after showering to lock in moisture.
If you continue to suffer from extremely dry skin despite these measures, I recommend seeing a dermatologist. They can examine your skin more closely and recommend specific skincare products or treatments if necessary.
I hope these tips will help you and that you will soon have healthy and well-nourished skin again. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
Best regards,
Nina Endres
