Company vehicle/registration
May 18, 2011 | 20,00 EUR | answered by Michael Herrmann
Hello,
I am a freelance architect with an architectural firm. My private and office addresses are different. I have purchased a new vehicle that is predominantly used for business purposes, and the private use portion is taxed using the 1% method. My question: The car dealership took care of the vehicle registration. Unfortunately, the car was registered to my private address. Do I need to re-register the car in order for it to be treated as a "company vehicle" (deductible business expense), or is that not necessary? All other invoices related to the vehicle are issued to my office address. I look forward to your response.
Dear inquirer,
first of all, thank you very much for your request, which I would be happy to answer based on the information provided and in the context of your involvement in an initial consultation. The response will be based on the description of the situation. Missing or incorrect information about the actual circumstances can affect the legal outcome.
It is not necessary to have registration at your office address. The key factor is the predominantly business use of the vehicle. For proof purposes, you should document this over a period of several months, even if no logbook is otherwise kept.
I hope that these details have provided you with a sufficient overview of the situation in the context of your involvement and this initial consultation, and I remain
Sincerely,
Michael Herrmann
