Ask a lawyer on the topic of Traffic law

How can I get my driver's license back faster after it has been revoked?

Dear lawyer,

My name is Chloé Völker and I recently lost my driver's license due to a traffic offense. I am employed and rely on my car to get to work. The loss of my driver's license is therefore a significant restriction for me. I am very worried about how long it will take to regain my driver's license and what steps I need to take for that.

I was stopped for driving under the influence of alcohol and my driver's license was revoked. I have already attended a remedial course and successfully passed my MPU (medical-psychological assessment). I am willing to take all necessary measures to get my driver's license back as soon as possible.

Can you please explain to me what further steps are necessary to regain my driver's license faster? Are there ways to expedite the process or are there specific deadlines that I must adhere to? I would like to be mobile again and regain my driver's license in order to fulfill my professional and personal obligations.

Thank you in advance for your support and advice.

Sincerely,
Chloé Völker

Dear Mrs. Völker,

I understand your concerns and your desire to regain your driver's license as quickly as possible in order to fulfill your professional and personal obligations. First of all, I want to assure you that you have already taken important steps by participating in a remedial course and successfully passing the MPU (medical-psychological assessment). These are positive signals for the authorities, indicating that you are ready to take responsibility for your misconduct on the road.

To expedite the process of regaining your driver's license, you should first contact the relevant driver's license authority to find out what further steps you need to take. Typically, you must wait out a suspension period before you can apply for the reissuance of your driver's license. This suspension period may vary depending on the type of traffic offense and is determined by the authority. It is important to adhere to this period in order to avoid any further issues.

Furthermore, you can support your application for the reissuance of your driver's license by taking additional measures such as traffic psychology counseling or a medical-psychological assessment. These measures can help restore the authorities' confidence in your ability to drive safely and expedite the reissuance process.

It is also important to submit all necessary documents in full and correctly to avoid any delays. If you have any further questions or need assistance, I am happy to help. I hope that this information is helpful to you and that you will soon be mobile again.

Sincerely,

Jessica Lange
