Using inheritance to pay off a loan? What happens in case of divorce?
Hello! I have been married for 10 years, my husband is listed as the owner of the house in the land register. There is still a loan outstanding. I recently inherited a small sum of money (15,000€). I would like to make a special repayment on this loan. My question now is: Is my money irretrievably lost in case of a divorce/separation? In that case, I would be repaying a loan for a house that does not belong to me. Does my husband have to repay me the money in case of a divorce? Can I make a private "loan agreement" with him that provides for repayment in case of separation/divorce? I simply don't want to be left without any starting capital in case of a separation with my daughter.
