Help, what's going on?

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have a question regarding my boyfriend, who has had a corneal astigmatism since birth. Everything was fine for the first year of our relationship, but now for the past six months, after we have had physical sexual contact, he has been getting eye infections. This manifests as his eyes becoming very red, swollen, teary, itchy and burning. When we see each other without becoming sexually active, he is fine. However, as soon as we become physically intimate, these problems arise and we cannot explain why this is happening or what the trigger could be. I must mention that he has been sweating a lot lately, could this be related? It also started happening around the time I got a new prosthetic eye and I have been using a facial solution with Erythromycin 1g and Alcohol isopropyl 70% V/V 99g.

Although I no longer use this solution when I have contact with him, his problems persist. His eye doctor says she does not know what it is, but that it could become chronic and he could potentially go blind. He does not want that, so he is considering breaking up with me. Therefore, I am asking if you have any advice or suggestions on what we can do.

I would greatly appreciate any helpful responses.

Kind regards
