Ask a doctor on the topic of Internal medicine

Dear Dr. Höllering,

I am 28 years old, so not yet over 50, but I cannot explain why this is happening. It usually gets better after 5-10 minutes, but I always get a bit anxious. Today, for example, I had it after smoking a cigarette, I felt so strange, and then it started again. Yesterday, it happened when I was painting my apartment, so I went to eat and drink, and eventually it went away. I had a stress ECG and ultrasound done by a cardiologist three weeks ago because of soccer, and everything was fine. I just have a bit of fear about this now.

If you have been examined by a cardiologist and are healthy, there is no reason to worry at all. I think you may just have a weak circulation, in this case regular endurance exercise and sufficient hydration can help. I wouldn't recommend smoking, even though it may not be directly related, it is really harmful in the long run.

Sometimes, it could also be a mild panic attack: meaning, the panic doesn't come because of the bad feeling, but the panic causes the bad feeling. This needs to be determined with the help of a doctor. Panic attacks can also occur without any apparent reason.

Warm regards, Dr. Höllering
