Ellaone and Unofem in the same cycle
Dear Sir or Madam,
Ten days ago, I took the emergency contraception pill Unofem because I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend. It was my 9th day, so my gynecologist told me I should take the emergency pill because I should start with the regular pill Microgynon only with my next menstruation.
Three days later, I had my regular check-up appointment with the same doctor and even though I said we were 100% protected, she said, "One must be sure. You are on your 12th day and since you are not taking the regular pill yet, I will prescribe you the emergency pill again." You do as the doctor says. I did not experience any side effects at all.
Unfortunately, the next time (again 3 days later), the condom broke and I was so embarrassed that this time I went to a different gynecologist. He said it is dangerous to use Unofem twice in the same menstrual cycle, but doctors can have different opinions... Since the emergency pill is prescription-only in Germany, it is automatically excluded that you can take it without consulting a doctor. This second doctor then prescribed me Ellaone and said it should not be a problem, as this emergency pill does not contain hormones.
I took Ellaone 4 days ago and have been bleeding since Friday evening. What concerns me is that the bleeding has been relatively heavy since yesterday. Today is my 18th day- could it be that my period has come earlier or is it just a side effect or reaction of the pills together?
How long can this bleeding last?
Now maybe a very silly question: Is this some kind of self-induced abortion as my friend's mother said?
It might also be a useful additional information that last week I also used 2 Arilin Rapid vaginal suppositories (and did not drink alcohol) - of course at the request of my gynecologist, she prescribed them at the same time as the Unofem.
Since gynecologists here have very different opinions, I kindly ask for a as objective as possible answer.
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards
