Hello,
I am in the 5th month of pregnancy and would like to find out about the risks regarding the vaccination against swine flu. Could the ingredients be harmful for me and my child?
Kind regards
Dear Questioner,
I can understand your concern well. Currently, there are two vaccines available. The first one, Pandemrix, is intended to be used for the general population. Unlike the second vaccine (which is intended for the federal government and soldiers) called Celvapan, it contains so-called adjuvants that can enhance a possible vaccination reaction. Additionally, the first vaccine has not been tested on pregnant women. Therefore, experts recommend that pregnant women should be vaccinated with the second vaccine, Celvapan. How this can be implemented is not clear at the moment. I would advise you to make an appointment with your family doctor and to seek detailed advice there. In any case, as a pregnant woman, you belong to the "risk group" (which also includes older people and healthcare workers) who should definitely be vaccinated.
I hope I could help you and send you warm regards,
Yours sincerely Susanne Plotz
